As a group we got together to brainstorm some ideas for our piece. We created a mind-map and looked at song choices, props, locations, characters and rough narrative outlines. It was really difficult trying to choose a song but after some discussion we decided that we wanted to do a slow song as we found they were more expressive. We all took to our Spotify playlists and came across the song '7 years old' by Lukas Graham. We liked this one as we could create a storyline showing a boy aging throughout the song however we thought it might be hard to cast a young boy as all our siblings are teenage years. We then thought of the song 'Closer' by the Chainsmokers. This is a massive hit with our teenage target audience and has very strong lyrics that could help create a strong music video. I then thought of the song 'Heathens' as this is very popular following its appearance in the Suicide Squad film. The lyrics are very unique and as we went through each line of them we found that ideas for a narrative were coming to us really quickly. It is quite a dark and mysterious song and one that we felt was easy to film more creative and unique shots for. We have discussed possibly using an abandoned house as one of our locations as they are dark and sinister which is the feeling you get from the song. We also thought about the possibility of having some shots in a busy place like the London Underground to get shots of people's reaction to our main character who we want to be dressed all in black with a half skeleton face painted on him. The reason behind this is because we are thinking of showing the main character as someone who is individual and different and as the video progresses he is considered more the norm as other people start getting the makeup too before revealing the motto that it is good to be different. We can use different musicians in this song as well as extras to play as our other skeleton people and the main character. So after examining all 3 songs and their lyrics thoroughly we have come to the conclusion that we will be doing our music video for the song 'Heathens'.
This is our first storyboard. We have planned out some ideas of what we might include in our video shot wise. We are thinking of starting off the piece off with an establishing shot of an abandoned house and then cutting to a close up of the actors face covered with the face paint. We are then planning on cutting to a shot of the drums and guitar to introduce the band into the video.
We will then go inside the house with the filming. We have seen online that in the lobby there are some red stairs and so we have planned to do a shot of our main singer on these. This will transition to a shot of him tapping along to the beat. The building also boasts some lovely interior brick walls an we are hoping to get a shot of our actor singing against this backdrop.
We will then get a shot of Jesse on the tube and some close ups of his face. We hope to get some shots of members of the public's reactions however we will have to ask for full permission before doing so. We will also some people cast as extras to provide these shots if not.
