Our codes of Dress is mostly/all black clothing. (dependant on the scene and location) We chose this colour as we felt the connotations of the colour Black linked in with the dark tone the song takes at times. The connotations of black codes of dress are power, fear, mystery. death, evil, authority and strength. It is a mysterious colour that is associated with the unknown and we felt that this coupled with the mysterious song Heathens would work perfectly. The use of this colour can also be used to evoke strong emotions and we felt this would work hand in hand with the song and its lyrics. It is most commonly a colour that is associated with death, mourning and sadness and as this song is about being outside of religious groups it emphasises that feeling of isolation with this code of dress.
Furthermore Black often can represent the emotions and actions of rebellion in teenagers and youths and I feel this will work well in our piece as the actors are all teenagers and so is the target audience. In more recent years the colour black has also become a way to form mystery around a persons character and this is something we want to portray in our piece. We are using face paint the hide the persons identity but also make them stand out and the black codes of dress will add a sense of mystery to this.
