Directors:

Emily Kai Bock
Emily Kai Brock is a canadian director and writer who has directed music videos for artists such as Arcade Fire, Lorde, Grizzly Bear and Grimes.
In 2014 she won the Prism prize for her video for the Arcade song 'Afterlife' and was

nominated for 'Director of the year' at the 2014 Much Music Video Awards.
She has also directed TV advertisements for Coca Cola and Diesel.
One of my favourite music videos that Emily has directed is Lorde's 'Yellow flicker beat' video as it is quite unique and edgy. All the shots flow from one location to the other which I love as it looks very smooth and interesting and I will definitely be using this technique in our music video.

-
'Best Male Video' at the 2011 MTV Music Video Awards for Justin Biebers 'U smile' video
One of my favourite music videos by Collin Tilley is Nicki Minaj's 'Anaconda'. It is a very controversial music video as she is wearing very revealing clothing but I think the bright colours used in the video and the numerous locations and dance routines used makes it a great pop video. Our music video wouldn't be as raunchy but we could still look at using the strong bright colours, interesting locations and dance routines.
Mark Romanek

Mark Romanek is an American filmmaker whose directing work includes commercials, feature films and music videos. He has worked with many stars such as Michael Jackson, Coldplay, Jay Z, Madonna and Iggy Pop.
Romanek was given his first Grammy award in 1996 for the collaboration video 'Scream' between Michael and Janet Jackson. After a few years writing screenplays, Romanek decided to focus more solely on music videos and also signed with Satellite Films, a division of Propaganda films.
His work has come to be regarded as one of the best in the industry now.
Romanek is well known for his 'random' ideas and uniqueness in his directing career. His style and creativity is usually suited to much faster paced songs such as scream by Michael and Janet Jackson. This is a brilliant video and one that I have grown up watching and been intrigued by. The video is set in some sort of ship in Space and uses unusual effects of animation mixed with reality which shows that sometimes the ideas that are out of the ordinary work the best. Something on this scale would be quire difficult to replicate in our music video but we can definitely take tips from it. Within this video they use lots of close ups on Michael Jackson's face to express his emotions which I think work really effectively and so will definitely look to use shots like this in our music video.
Reflection:
Below is my reflection on how I think the directors will influence the making of our music video.
