Looking at these music videos has given me lots of inspiration for when we create our own. I have learnt that it is crucial to take into account the impact that using the wrong lighting or effect could have on our piece and so it is essential that we get it perfect. I think carrying out research on locations that fit in well with our song will be a massive advantage for the piece as it will make it seem more genuine. Having taken inspiration from these videos I think that we should try to use specialist light kits in order to really make our shots and overall product look professional.

No Sleep - Wiz Khalifa:

I like this music video due to the fun element about it. It is filmed in an underground warehouse and shows Wiz Khalifa performing in a party setup. Lots of low angle shots are used to convey the fun and madness that comes with a party and the pace of the camerawork used is fast which further represents the chaos and hype at a party. I think the location and setup of the whole piece works really well together and follows the stereotypes of a typical party which adds to the credibility of this video and means the audience can relate to it with their own personal experiences.

Starboy - The Weeknd:

This is one of my favourite songs and music videos as I think it is very unique and different which makes it a very memorable piece. It is a dimly lit video with it being a night shoot which instantly adds an element of mystery to the piece. It then shows The Weeknd himself grabbing a glowing cross and using this to smash up different parts of the house he is in. I think the idea of having the brightly glowing cross in contrast to the darkly lit house is very intriguing and brings your attention to the cross straight away and this idea of having an object as the main focus is something that I think might be nice to try out in our video to give it an edgy feel.

Kiss Kiss - Chris Brown:

I really like this video as I feel it is really creative. In this video Chris Brown goes with the high school theme of the 'cool kids' and the 'nerds'. The whole video is very cleverly thought out with a high school being used for the location and the codes of dress conforming to the stereotypes of American high schools. Because they have all gone out with the high school theme the video is really effective and so if we were to try a theme in our video we would need to make sure we go to the same extent with our location and codes of dress.

Low Life - Future:

This video is interesting as it doesn't follow the lyrics and doesn't have a clear structure to it. Instead it is just filmed in a very dark warehouse with the use of a smoke machine. It focuses on the strong powerful image of a bunch of flowers being burnt and I think this makes the piece strong having this solid image as the main focus with the rest of the video being very plain. I don't think we will do anything like this for our video as for me it is too plain however it was interesting to get some inspiration from.

Dye my hair - Alma:

I really like the colour palette in this music video as I feel the green, pink and blue go together really nicely. The video itself has no real meaning and this is conveyed by the fact it is made up of shots of the artist singing whilst two masked dancers are performing behind her. I definitely think that we could look into using several different coloured lighting packs as I feel this would make our video stand out and give it that edge.

No problem - Chance The Rapper ft. 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne:

Although this video subverts the common representations of rap music videos I think that is it a really fun one to analyse. It is made up of a montage of footage showing the artists all messing around together whilst fitting in shots of them performing to the song as well. A montage idea would be interesting to test out for our music video although I don't know how easy it would be to carry out logistically as we have a restricted time frame to complete our video in.

Formation - Beyonce:

This video focuses around Beyonce being a strong independent woman and is filmed in lots of different locations where she and her posse are made to seem unobtainable and desirable. Although this is a very strong text I do not feel we would be able to use this as an inspiration for our piece as we don't have the same budget to be able to create such an exotic piece.

Lean & Bop - J Hus ft. DoccyDocs:

This video follows the artist teaching different members of the public and family and friends how to do the lean & bop move. This is a different style of video as it is interacts with the audience and so is more relatable as a video. I like the use of the white background in the shots where the artists are singing as it pulls the focus straight onto them and might look to use a strong block background in our lip syncing shots.

One More Time - Craig David:

This Craig David video has lots of interesting elements within it that I would take as inspiration for our video. He uses effects on certain shots of his video which make them seem to have come from a different period of time to the rest of the video which I think adds extra depth to these shots. He also has shots of him singing to an audience which I feel makes the video more interactive with the viewers. These are both elements that I would consider having in our music video.

Youth - Troye Sivan:

I love this shot shown here on the left from the Troye Sivan 'Youth' music video. The story line follows him at a house party and shows him encouraging his lover to seize the day. I think this is a stunning shot as it shows the silhouette of the artist making him appear mysterious in this shot as you can't see his face. This would be perfect for our music video as we want it to be mysterious as this is the vibe the song gives off. The colour palette is also very nice with pinks and purples being used and I think that this is something that we could definitely experiment with.
